Add Background Image to Google.com just like Bing
Now you can add and change the beautiful background images on Google homepage, just like bing.com.
Here is a guide, for adding background images on Google homepage.
To add background image on Google, you will need to first login to your Google account.
Now visit Google homepage, please note, you need to open google.com not your country's google homepage as this feature is only available in google.com.
When I type google.com, I am redirected automatically to the country homepage google.com.pk.
If you redirected to your country homepage then look for "Go to Google.com" link on the bottom right side of the page. it will redirect you to google.com.
When page opened, look for the link "Change Background Image" in the bottom left corner.
Choose the Google background image from the public gallery and double click to select. In this way you can also choose from Editor picks, from your computer or from your own Picassa album.
Amaze your friends who still do not know about it.
In the same way you can remove background Image from Google. Click on Remove background image link on the bottom left side of the page.

Open Word files faster
If you want to open the last used document in MS Word, you can use this command in Start | Run : winword /mfile1. This will open the last document. You can also use winword /mfile1 for second last file and so on up to last nine documents. So if you want to open this ninth last documents, type winword /mfile1. That's all...
Tweak Your Processor!
Windows XP is optimized for processors having 256KB of Level2 cache. However, many of today's processors have more than this. Find out how much Level2 cache your processor has and carry out the following tweak.
-Navigate to the registry branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Memory Management.
-Create a new DWORD under this branch called 'SecondLevelDataCache' and assign it a value corresponding to the amount of your processor's Level2 cache (for example, 512 or 1024 in the case of 512KB or 1MB respectively.)
-Restart Windows and you will should see a further increase in performance of your system! Goodluck
CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE will bring up your task manager with priority.
If you have to move files from many folders to one folder, create a shortcut to the destination folder and cut it with CTRL+X, go to the first folder with the files you want to transfer and select all the files, then hit CTRL+V (paste) and move the selected files into the shortcut. Cut the shortcut again and repeat in the next folder. Make sure you select your files first so that you don't have to worry about accidentally selecting the shortcut.

New Blogger (Beta): GIF, PNG uploads slow down your blog
DON'T upload GIF or PNG image files via the built-in Post Editor if you blog via the now feature complete fancy New Blogger, formerly known as Blogger Beta. It produces horrendously inflated thumbnails. Only JPG files are safe from the dreaded Blogger bloat!
If you upload a pic or photo to Blogger via the post editor, Blogger creates a thumbnail picture of your original, which is then displayed in your blog post. The thumbnail is meant to be a smaller version of the original, which people can click to see a copy of the original full size image file.
But oddly enough, New Blogger actually increases the file size of the thumbnail displayed on your blog, to bigger than the original file's size - and even bigger than the fullsize versions. Always with GIFs, often with PNGs. So don't save pics or photos in either of those file formats if you want to upload them to New Blogger, or it'll slow down the loading time horribly (and needlessly) for visitors to your blog.
With JPG or JPEG picture files though, it's fine - New Blogger doesn't seem to mess with those. Old Blogger ("Classic Blogger") did that randomly sometimes, on my blog at least (it produced smaller JPG thumbnails for some GIFs, left other GIFs exactly as is, turned some GIFs into PNGs of comparable filesize - whereas it would reduce a similar JPEG). But New Blogger always, always turns out bloated GIFs.
A test example, with a 420x300 GIF whose filesize was 72.6kb, produced a medium sized thumbnail of 400x280, which is fine, but the thumbnail's file size was - 201kb! Inflated to nearly triple the original file size.
PNG example. The large original was 52kb - the smaller thumbnail turned out to be 145kb! (That was in my last post. I've since swapped it for a JPG.)
To make matters worse, images from Picasa Web Albums (which is where New Blogger now stores pics uploaded via Blogger) don't seem to get cached - on some computers or browsers anyway. So when someone revisits a page with a PWA image, the browser has to request the image from the server and they have to download the image all over again. With multiple GIFs, it's compounded further - and lots of my posts have several GIF screenshots, which is one reason why posts from my blog were taking so long to come up.
With JPGs, the large size remains unchanged and it seems the thumbnails are being reduced to about 85% quality. A test image, a JPEG version of the same GIF file saved at 100%, had a file size of 89kb. After being uploaded through Blogger the large size stayed the same, and the thumbnail was downgraded to 15kb. So it seems Blogger is reducing JPGs properly.
I haven't had the chance to check if the same problem happens with images posted to New Blogger from Picasa direct, or with GIFs or PNGs hosted elsewhere which you hotlink to from Blogger.
But for now, until Team Blogger sort out the problem, if you're using New Blogger it's best not to upload pictures via the New Blogger post editor in GIF or PNG format. Change to JPGs and you might find your blog webpages' loading time speeding up instantly!

Stupid Windows 7 trick: unlock the secret God Mode folder
So, what exactly is God Mode in Windows 7?
Well, for starters, it's not really a mode. And it's nothing you need to be a deity to pull off, either.
Rather, it's a folder packed with shortcuts to just about every settings change and administrative function in Windows 7. Everything you'll find in the Action Center, Backup and Restore, Autorun, Desktop Gadgets, Devices and Printers -- it's all there. All dumped in one central location for easy access.
No, this trick doesn't involve entering IDDQD in the run box - but it's just about that simple. Here's the magic, as provided by the guys at Windows 7 Themes:
* Create a new folder anywhere (I set mine up in d:\)
* Rename the folder and paste in the following text: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
That's it! You've now got your new, somewhat handy folder. Why somewhat handy? Well, because you can already access everything in there by typing a few letters into the search box on your start menu.
Firefox 3.7's Windows 7 shell features continue taking shape
While Mozilla's release schedule may have hit some snags lately, Firefox developers keep chugging along. Though Windows 7 shell integration features have taken a back seat in 3.6, they're alive and kicking in the 3.7 pre-alpha.
Jump List support is much more complete now, and it's also highly customizable. The about:config page now includes preferences for each group on the list -- tasks, recent pages, and frequently visited pages. You're also able to specify the maximum number of items you want displayed in each list. To locate the Windows 7 preferences, just type taskbar into the config filter box.
Aero Peek and Superbar thumbnails, unfortunately, still seem to be experiencing the spinning wheel problem. No image appears, and the Aero Peek preview shows only an empty gray window. Personally, I'd rather just be able to click back to my Firefox window anyway -- and not have to hover and choose a tab first.

Steam shows massive adoption of Windows 7 by gamers
So, get this: while Windows 7 only accounts for 6% of the global operating system market, 23% of Steam gamers are using Windows 7!
The breakdown shows a lot of statistics, including average processor speed (2.5GHz) and NVIDIA (65%) versus ATI (30%). You can even see the split between 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7: if you click 'Windows Versions', all the flavors drop down -- 64-bit has 15.6% of the total share, while 32-bit has 7.45%. In the past month, the Windows 7 64-bit adoption jumped 2.5%, while Windows XP dropped by 3.2% -- a sure sign that gamer geeks are finally migrating away from XP (and that Santa brought them shiny new computers!)
But of course, the best statistic, saved until last like a prime cut of steak, is that Windows 7 (23%) has surpassed Windows Vista (20%)... after just 4 months!
Those gamers sure didn't like Vista. Who can blame them.

Boot Snooze combines the goodness of hibernation and rebooting
You want to shut down your Windows PC for the day, but you also want it to start as quickly as possible tomorrow morning. Waiting 3-4 minutes to load Windows plus all of the apps that you run at startup just isn't a (good) option. What do you do? You probably just put your computer into sleep or hibernation mode. But there's a better way.
When you constantly use sleep or hibernate, there's a good chance your computer could go days, weeks, or months without a reboot. And while that's not the end of the world, Windows generally works best when you do a reboot every now and again. Data gets cleared from cache files, Windows updates are applied, and programs and services that may have become stuck somewhere between the running and not-running state will be stopped and/or restarted.
Boot Snooze is a simple freeware app that combines the best aspects of a complete reboot with the speedy recovery of sleep or hibernate. Basically all you have to do is fire up this executable file and click the "restart then hibernate" or "restart then standby" option. Your computer will shut down, start up again, and then go into standby or hibernate mode so that when you're ready to start using your computer again you won't have to perform a cold boot.
The program presents you with a 10 minute countdown upon rebooting before hibernating. This allows you to change your mind if you need to. But you can also just start the app and walk away. When you come back your computer should be suspended.
It would be nice if Boot Snooze would let you adjust the amount of time shown on the countdown clock. 10 minutes might be overkill. But overall it's a handy little app, and it's hard to argue with the price. It's available as a free download from the Donation Coder forums.
Open source disk tool UltraDefrag hits version 4.0
If you haven't heard it mentioned before with other disk defragmenters, UltraDefrag is a solid open source alternative to tools like MyDefrag and Auslogics' Disk Defrag.
Ultra Defrag is packed with functionality, offering whole disk defragmentation and optimization, file and folder defragging (via your right-click context menu), boot-time defragging, and scheduled jobs. The boot-time job allows UltraDefrag to take care of locked system files like pagefile.sys and your registry hives, which are locked while Windows is running.
While UltraDefrag v4.0 isn't the project's first major release, its developers consider this to be the first 'non-beta' due to past issues with reliability. The new version is fast, and after testing it on three different Windows 7 systems (including x64) those problems seem to have been fixed.
Downloads are available for both 32 and 64-bit Windows versions, and both an installer and portable option are provided.
Is Windows 7 causing battery problems in laptops?
A growing contingent of new laptop users are experiencing extremely poor battery performance, and complaining about it loudly online. The thing is, the problem doesn't seem limited to be any one laptop manufacturer, or even any one battery manufacturer. It's starting to look like the only common denominator for the users experiencing problems is Windows 7.
While it's still too early to say with any certainty that Microsoft's latest version of Windows is the culprit, Computerworld is reporting that Microsoft has said that it is looking into the battery problems.
Microsoft's support forum has a thread dedicated to reports of battery problems under Windows 7 that started in early June 2009, and it's still going strong! Some users on the thread are simply reporting decreased battery life when running Windows 7 vs. Windows XP, while others claim they believe Windows 7 has actually reduced their battery's capacities. If that claim turns out to be true, it could be a landmark situation: a software bug that damages hardware could lead to lawsuits, though it's extremely unlikely that Microsoft will let this situation get to that stage.
Create System Restore points in Windows 7 and Vista with two clicks
One thing I often forget to do before installing a program I want to test or fiddling with my drivers is creating a System Restore point. System Restore has been part of Windows for ages now, but I still have trouble remembering 1) it's there and 2) sometimes it's pretty handy.
To make it easier on myself, I set up a dead-simple restore point creator. Those of you who don't want to bother with the DIY route can download Quick Restore Maker from The Windows Club. Download the app, double click the icon, and you've got yourself a fresh restore point!
The manual method isn't all that complicated. All it takes is creating a new text file, changing the extension to .vbs and pasting the following code in via notepad (or your favorite text editor):
